The cause of dry skin on the legs

The lower limbs, but also the hands and face are areas that frequently suffer from dehydration. This is physiological: the skin naturally loses water, particularly through perspiration. Every day, 600 ml evaporate, which is the equivalent of a small bottle of liquid. This is what is known as Insensible Water Loss.

The corneous layer, the upper layer of the epidermis, has the role of limiting this water loss. Its surface is protected by the hydrolipidic film: this emulsion of water and fats is a real cutaneous barrier, present on the surface of the skin to protect it from everyday aggressions. It is essentially made up of sebum, sweat, water and keratinised cell aggregates (in other words, dead cells).

However, its balance is fragile: damaged by repeated aggressions, it is no longer able to play its role as a protective barrier and retain water in the skin.

These daily assaults can have different origins:

- Bad lifestyle habits, such as smoking and alcohol

- Emotional factors (stress, overwork, fatigue, anxiety...)

- Products unsuited to your skin, especially cleansing products (soaps, shower gels, exfoliants, etc.) which can strip the skin, thus jeopardising the integrity of the hydrolipidic film.

- Not to mention environmental factors: extreme heat or cold, UV rays, pollution...are all conditions that favour skin dehydration. If this phenomenon of dry skin can occur all year round, it is generally amplified during the winter when negative temperatures, wind and heating attack the skin and damage the hydrolipidic film.
The equation is simple: when water loss is greater than water intake, the epidermis becomes drier and rougher. It loses its suppleness and beauty.

This is when dry skin appears, with all its attendant discomforts: irritation, tightness, discomfort and flakiness, which become long-lasting if the right steps are not taken on a daily basis. Dry skin is not inevitable, and a well-targeted beauty routine can quickly reverse the trend, leaving your legs soft and silky.

After cleansing, a gentle exfoliation of the thighs, knees and calves will help you get rid of dead skin cells and regain a baby's skin. However, limit yourself to one or two scrubs per week.

The Revitalizing Body Scrub is enriched with natural active ingredients: poppy seeds to gently exfoliate and activate cell renewal, Aloe Vera and its regenerating properties, as well as sea salt crystals, with their astringent and remineralizing action.

To avoid damaging your fragile skin, lightly pat your towel dry and avoid rubbing your skin vigorously. Similarly, avoid showers that are too hot or last too long, especially if the water is hard: this is a factor that aggravates skin dryness.

The ultimate treatment for dry skin on your thighs, knees and calves: nourish the skin deeply with ultra-nourishing creams, capable of providing the water that your skin lacks to regenerate it in a single step..
