Why use a mask to fight acne?

The pores secrete sebum to moisturise and protect the skin from external damage. Acne is caused by inflamed pilosebaceous follicles which cause an overproduction of sebum. This oily environment encourages Propionibacterium acnes, a bacterium which is naturally present in the skin’s microbiota, to multiply.

To prevent the appearance of blackheads, spots, nodules and cysts, it’s vital to use a purifying mask regularly to cleanse the pores in depth.

DID YOU KNOW? 25% OF ADULT WOMEN SUFFER FROM ACNE.

Adult acne may be a continuation of teenage acne which hasn’t healed, but it can also appear for the first time in adulthood. In women, this phenomenon can be the result of a hormonal imbalance (caused by the menstrual cycle, pregnancy or contraceptives).

To tackle the proliferation of the bacteria responsible for acne, the skin’s microbiota needs to be rebalanced so that it can regulate the production of sebum. A tailored skincare routine combined with excellent hygiene and good hydration are important basics when it comes to treating acne. Using a weekly mask which has been designed for combination, oily and acne-prone skin is another effective addition to a skincare routine to keep the skin looking healthy in the long term.

Face mask

Green clay

Known for its absorbent, antiseptic, healing and anti-inflammatory properties, green clay is recommended for acne-prone skin. Packed with minerals and trace elements, it absorbs toxins, impurities and excess sebum to purify the skin, without ever drying it out.

Plant-derived activated charcoal

With its impressive absorption properties, plant-derived charcoal acts as a real magnet for impurities. It has a powerful detoxifying effect, deeply cleansing the pores by getting rid of toxins and excess sebum.

Zinc

Zinc is a trace element which has a powerful effect on acne, thanks to its healing, anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties. This natural mineral with antioxidant properties regulates sebum production, purifies the skin and regenerates it.

Salicylic acid

Salicylic acid is a powerful antibacterial which is often used to treat acne. Its antiseptic and anti-inflammatory properties purify and soothe the skin. This astringent ingredient tightens pores and reduces the appearance of pigmented scars for a more even complexion.

Burdock root extract

Known for its detoxifying, antibacterial and purifying properties, burdock root helps to treat acne by removing toxins. It regulates sebum secretion and purifies the epidermis. Its softening and soothing properties help to keep the skin moisturised, clean and healthy.

Prebiotics

Obtained from natural sugars, gluco-oligosaccharide prebiotics protect the microbiota and the skin’s ecosystem. They stimulate the growth of healthy flora and counteract pathogenic bacteria to rebalance the epidermis.

What beauty routine to fight acne?

Fight Acne

Step 1: Start with a double cleanse

Double cleansing is the most gentle way to cleanse the skin. Start by using a cleansing oil, suitable for acne-prone oily and combination skin, to remove make-up and excess sebum. Finish the cleansing process with a suitably mild cleanser, such as the Purifying Cleansing Gel, to remove sweat and impurities.

Step 2: Apply a purifying mask

Once your skin is perfectly clean, apply your purifying mask to unclog pores and purify the skin. Leave to work for 10 minutes and rinse thoroughly with clean water.

Step 3: Use an astringent lotion

After using a mask, apply a lotion or a hydrosol with astringent properties to tighten the pores and refine the skin’s texture. Pores which are properly closed reduce the build-up of dust and impurities which cause blackheads and spots. Sweet Mint Floral Water is a refreshing, purifying and astringent hydrosol which is suitable for combination and oily skin.

Step 4: Moisturise generously with a non-comedogenic product

Acne-prone oily skin is sensitive and imbalanced. In addition to a purifying mask, remember to apply a non-comedogenic moisturiser, such as PATYKA Matte Perfecting Fluid, to help to regulate the sebaceous glands’ production of sebum and protect your skin from external damage. For even better results, you can apply an anti-blemish serum before your moisturiser.

PATYKA’S ADVICE: TRY A FACIAL SAUNA JUST BEFORE APPLYING YOUR MASK! A facial sauna or steam bath gently opens the skin’s pores to remove impurities. If you opt for a facial sauna just before applying your purifying mask, it will cleanse the pores in depth for even healthier skin.
